Muspelheim: Irkalla's largest development facility, located on a secluded island in the Aegean Sea. Muspelheim is an underground hive, hidden and heavily fortified. Muspelheim had a series of outcrops on the island's mountainous terrain; namely the helipads, and a series of hidden silo exits capable of launching rockets to deploy satellites into orbit, or even WMDs. It's a good thing Irkalla has no interest in the FLEIJA. Aurora has actually publicly called it "an archaic reckless weapon suited for cavemen." She also went to say "Any modern civilized man who feels the need to use this weapon is obviously compensating for a lack of virility." She was applauded by the international media for such a comment.
Aurora was at the facility to oversee the latest test of the Nova Generator. This was a key to Irkalla's rise as a world power. With Nova Power they would be able to disengage all reliance of Sakuradite, not to mention they'd be able to market Nova power and revolutionize the industry, taking it by storm.
The Nova Generator operated by a principle a lot of new technologies used: ambient energy manipulation, or AEM. Being a mythology freak, and a secret occultist, Aurora figured that if the ancient people of the earth all believed in the ability to alter, control, and even summon ambient energy, then it must be a feasible practice. Sure Aurora didn't believe in the ability for a human to be able to do so on it's own, but she did believe in the power of science. She was usually heard quoting ancient passages about the Tree of Knowledge and the Devil's gift to mankind.
AEM was successfully performed two years ago by Irkalla. Using ancient charts, Aurora had bought this island, since according to old myths, there was a lay-line in this island. A hypothetical font of cosmic energy caused by unknown phenomena. Most of the scientific staff didn't believe in this mumbo-jumbo, and Aurora had always kept a skeptical mind, but the AEM was successful, be it because of a lay-line or not.
The Nova Generator was to absorb ambient energy en masse, making it into a renewable source of power. There were only a few side-effects expected from this test... some of which could be lethal to staff. However, the implications of this test could very well mean a superior victory for the company, and given everyone in Irkalla was driven in an almost cult-like manner, this was worth a human life or two. Regardless, every precaution was being taken to try to prevent such a thing to happen.
The Nova Generator sat in a large room. Plants had been brought in and set around the generator to test it's possible side-effects, along with a few lab animals. The generator itself was very strange in appearance, resembling a small scale ziggurat with a series of devices on it's steps; power transformers of a very specific nature. At the top of the ziggurat was a device that resembled a gyroscope.
The room was cleared of staff. The controls were outside of the room. The staff along with Aurora stood in an adjacent room, watching through an armored window with a blast shield ready to close in case of an emergency.
"All systems are green, Miss Gallows." one of the scientist announced.
Aurora stared at the device through the window, taking a deep breath, "Do it." she ordered.
"Engaging AEM pylons." another scientist said, flipping a few switches.
The transformers began to hum and glow with a magenta hue. The air around the ziggurat became distorted, almost like heat waves. Very vague, in spherical form.
"Increasing AEM." a third scientist said, turning a dial. The pylons hummed louder, glowing brighter. The distortion became visible in a field that resembled the aurora borealis effect seen in the Arctic circle. Aurora was smiling.
"Readings are stable. Engaging Deimos device." the first scientist declared.
The gyroscope-looking component began to spin, slowly increasing in speed. The plants and cages in the generator room began to rattle.
"Temperature dropping." the second scientist declared.
The temperature in the generator room was indeed dropping... and fast. The borealis effect was drained into the Deimos device, creating a shining focus of energy in the middle of it's oscillating rings. The Deimos device is what sucked the energy, and as the ambient energy was drained from the room the temperature dropped at an alarming rate. The plants withered and died, as did the lab animals. Aurora noticed as she could suddenly see her breath, even in the adjacent room.
"Stabilize the field!" she called out. If the generator was not stabilized, they would be the next ones to die.
"Stabilizing field!" the first scientist declared.
The pylons generated a pulse in a specific pattern. The Deimos device let out a pulse of it's own once the pattern was finished. This created a shockwave that toppled all the dead plants and cages over, before sucking in all sound in a rush. The nexus of energy in the middle of the Deimos device pulsed a final time, wavering it's shine, before becoming stable.
"Temperature rising to 30 degrees Celsius." the third scientist declared.
"All systems nominal. We've succeeded in deploying a stable field."
Aurora smiled, "Excellent..."
"Energy is flowing. It's astronomical! The Nova Generator is a success!" the first scientist declared with excitement.
"Good work, brothers." Aurora said with a grin, turning to the scientists, "Thanks to you, this world is one step closer to enlightenment. You will all get a pay increase." she chuckled.
