Ready, set... Oh, not quite yet.
Aloysius stood on a small podium at the edge of a sandy football field, which probably once had been the football stadium of the Eastern Tokyo. That, of course, had been before Britannia had bombed the city again while invading the country anew some years back. But for today those ruins of a stadium served their purpose just right in the rusty shape they were in nowadays.
The date had finally been set, and so was the place - and now, the numbers consisting that date and the letters the name of that place meant today, and here. The Chief of Science smiled, even somewhat childlike delight shining naked on his face and throughout his character. Not that he was able to help it. Excitement was to be expected, and it was only a natural reaction for such was the day, that at the end of it, he should have got himself a brand new test pilot and at last would he be able to proceed with many of his projects, the ones simply running in their places with no way to take them to the next stage for some trials.
So no wonder Aloysius would be, the least to say, excited - and not least by the fact how hard he had fought to get to the point to actually get a permission and begin this test devicer training program in the first place. But as for the situation now, that seemed like a faint nightmare of the past which he wouldn't have to bother himself anymore. The training was over. The results would soon be seen right at this stadium, he would be able to observe the fruits of it completely with his own eyes.
And what a couple would today's final match's fighters be. One, mere school teacher with apparently a pure natural talent, cut from a rough stone and polished through the training program now for her to shine like a diamond - and the other, quite the old fox at the battlefield, more than exceptional youngster who definitely could not thank nor blame Mother Nature for his genes. Yet both of them were quite equal by their stats in the end, they would also, naturally, fight in the equal standing - with a Glasgow, equipped with the same basic weaponry. Any usage of additional weaponry in this match would be prohibited - that for Aloysius knew Izumi had some of such, and he himself couldn't afford nor get the same weaponry to the Glasgow he had for Susanna.
What an excuse for a Chief of Science, seriously~ he laughed to himself, out loud. Well, it wasn't his fault they were running quite tight with the Tintagel's budget at the moment - with quite little progress, they naturally got less funding. Aloysius gave again out a laugh, though this time a bit sarcastic one, to the thought. Like the First Prince would have been their best friend anyway. Even though His Royal Highness was an artist, he apparently did quite not share the Chief of Science's view of what was to be called art and what was not. Well, matters of opinions were the ones not to be argued, right?
But what was left now, was for the actual combatants to arrive to the scene. One other who had partially helped Aloysius to get the devicer matter (mostly with paperwork and as an errand boy, anyway) finally to the point in which it was now, was not to be expected to show up though. That, quite obviously, was the young Vice Chief of Science of the Chinese, the youngster he apparently had under his wing for now. He, though useful and all, was still part of the foreign military and there were things Aloysius wouldn't let him see whether he or Aloysius himself liked it or not.
An engineer of his cut his train of thought - one of the younger and thus, also an errand boy to be used when in need of one - to inform his Chief that everything at the stadium was ready and set for the day's event. The Tintagel's Glasgow was waiting at one end of the sandy field, and Izumi's was standing at the other end - Aloysius had asked to get it for the night before the finals day for it to be checked and the MVS's temporarily removed for the final battle. But now it was all set, as was the stadium itself. Some guards at their posts and his members of staff present at their own spots. Aloysius nodded to the engineer as an answer and was left again to observe the still empty, bare view. Leaning to the railing at the edge of the podium he checked his pocket watch - well, a regular watch he simply had a habit to keep in his pocket instead of its supposed-to-be place at his wrist. Hm. It was almost time for them to arrive.

Izumi pulled up to the stadium in a military issue jeep, as he didn't have the credentials for his jet anymore. However they were still able to deliver his Glasgow for him, how nice. He was already suited up, no point in wasting time. He walked into the stadium itself, it felt almost as if it were a colloseum now - except in the place of two men in linen there was going to be two machines. Sakura would've loved to watch this sort of thing, the chance to see Izumi possibly get his ass handed to him without it being her for once. Too bad for her, she made herself a terrorist. "Good day Aloysius... Sir." He said, not used to having to said the 'sir' word to almost everyone in the military after so long. "If you haven't heard already, I've been demoted for my inability to capture an escaped terrorist and... the rest is classified." He told the scientist, information regarding the princess' kidnapping was not to discussed to anyone lower than the royalty until they gave authority to do as such. He made his way to his Glasgow, it had only its basic equipment right now - so no MVS to put the battle in his favour. It was going to be a pure test of skill. Gripping the cable, which pulled him up to the Glasgow's cockpit, he surveyed the area - aside from the stadium itself there really wasn't anything that would intefere with mobility or the like. Sighing under his own breath he hopped into the cockpit, which closed up shortly after. He didn't activate anything but the radio however, since he didn't want to waste energy.

Susanna wasn't more than a bit late from the time set for the final trial, but still she had mostly ran where ever she had had the chance on her way to the old stadium. Usually she was not late - but whatever the usual, when it happened on the most important of times, the usual had little to no effect on the matter. Voi helvetti, saateri, hitto, piru... Well, she wasn't usually prone to curse either, but when in such a hurry and by her own fault angry at herself, she did have her words. Not that she ever actually voiced them out loud - would've proven that she wasn't a full Brit too unlike her ID stated - so they were left to be only a mental swear.
It was just by the last minute she reached the stadium, but since she still had to change for the proper suit, she was a couple of minutes late when she finally got out of the locker room and to the field. Fortunately it wasn't too hard to spot the person she was looking for - the Chief of Science was out there, quite visibly at the side of the field. Seemed he had not noticed her yet, and was looking at the other direction when she approached him, first with a proper greeting, then an apologizing expression shifting to her face.
"Sir Drebbel, Achrenius reporting in. I'm terribly sorry I'm a bit late." Though not too much, fortunately, she thought as she saw the figure - her opponent - going up to the other Knightmare standing further at one end of the field. Soon enough, she would get to the Frame waiting at the other end of the sandy field...

"Good day Aloysius... Sir."
Ah, there was the first one... Aloysius turned around for the voice greeting him just to see the familiar face and lift his eyebrow for the youngster's unusually polite tone and the usage of such word as 'Sir' when he spoke the the Chief of Science. Of course it wasn't unusual a title for the man of such a status as the Chief of Science, but it was very most odd to hear it come out from this certain one Captain's mouth. The scientist blinked, and blinked again before he gave the younger man a look of quite much interest to hear soon what was behind this new attitude of his towards Aloysius. For long the scientist didn't have to wait, for the boy continued almost non-stop. "If you haven't heard already, I've been demoted for my inability to capture an escaped terrorist and... the rest is classified." The scientist lifted also the other eyebrow of his yet to remain down. Oh, an ex-Captain, was it? Now what was this what he heard? The boy - the so-called 'Ultimate Soldier' - had actually failed at something?
Well, even he, though how 'ultimate', was still a human - errare humanum est. Albeit also understandable that with such a background as Izumi had, he was also grown to be expected of much more than that of a the capability of a regular human being - and he himself, under such a pressure, had naturally grown to expect that same abnormal more out of himself. But. Was. Still. Just. A. Human.
Aloysius didn't much realize himself that he was left to stare at Izumi quite blankly while actually not that blank bunch of thoughts kept him busy inside his own head. It took some time before his eyes regained some sort of emotion to them - though one under such a stare one could only wonder what the Chief scientist was meaning with it. Due to politeness, Aloysius knew he should have been more sorry because of such a turn on Izumi's otherwise so promising career, but he couldn't help the first thought coming to his mind before sorry to be quite actually from the opposite kind of side of thoughts. Though when he spoke again, his voice did soften a bit and he gave the Cap - ah, soldier a slightly apologetic a look, though already the rest of his sentence sounded more impish than sorry. "I'm sorry to hear such news - but, we may look at the bright side of it: as a soldier you'll fit the test devicer's chain of command much better than you being a Captain~" Aloysius paused, then letting a slight, though quite emotionless a smile to spread across his face. "...That is, if you come out as the better of this trial."
His gaze following after the boy who then proceeded into his Knightmare, Aloysius stood silent - the only thought next to be that the other participant of this so-called fight was late. Though not too soon after the soldier-apparently-not-so-ultimate-anymore(?) had left his vicinity, he could hear other steps approaching again from behind him.
"Sir Drebbel, Achrenius reporting in. I'm terribly sorry I'm a bit late." Well, finally. Aloysius turned around just to greet the girl, and give her a nod. "Well, no need to worry about that now - the main thing is that you are here-" , giving a quick glance to his pocket watch, " -and in time enough." He then glanced over his shoulder, only to see Izumi having disappeared to his Frame, soon enough the communication device Aloysius still had in his pocket giving out a low beep as it signaled that the Captain had activated his radio. With a slight, yet clear gesture of his hand the scientist dismissed the woman, who took her way to the Frame reserved for her use for the day. He watched her get into it, then reached for the commlink and set it to his ear. Now there, then... "Okay, then. A test of communication. Kaoto, do you hear? You, Achrenius?" While he spoke, a pleased smile slowly spreading across his face. Oh, the joy. Finally some progress to the things been in hold for quite a while.

Izumi hadn't activated the visuals for his frame, so he actually had no idea of what was going on outside, though he made an assumption that the other devicer had to have arrived by now, which got confirmed seconds later by... "Okay, then. A test of communication. Kaoto, do you hear? You, Achrenius?" "This is Kaoto, hear you loud and clear. Miss Archrenius - I'm assuming you're a miss - may the best pilot win." He said as he started up the Knightmare for real, inputting his command code, followed shortly by the flag of the empire appearing on his screen. He then began to run diagnostics, to make sure all systems were green. They were. Combat mode was also shortly initialised, though he would not make any move of sorts until Aloysius gave the signal.

"This is Kaoto, hear you loud and clear." She could also hear the other pilot, loud and clear as he himself also stated. Though she was maybe a bit surprised by the voice - he sounded pretty young, someone merely not even a major. If he was, then probably barely over the borderline. Not that it would've again meant a thing for the battle at hand. But still, the though lingered at the back of Susanna's consciousness, just the mere fact that Britannia accepted even youngsters, barely over the border of being just children, into it's military forces... "All clear here too, Sir. Ready to go, Sir." Maybe she was being slightly, or even overly polite, but she let the thought go - it shouldn't at least hurt her to have good manners, now would it? "Miss Archrenius - I'm assuming you're a miss - may the best pilot win." A slight smile curved her lips, and faintly she shook her head as she, too, ran the startup procedure of her appointed Knightmare. Still, his voice in her ears sounded too young to be there as her opponent... "You assume right, Mr. Kaoto" , she kept a tiny pause, "So shall be it - and may you have my best wishes with you~" The startup was ready. Her hand went and wrapped themselves around the controls of the machine and she took in a deep breath. She would do her best, definitely and like always - but she knew that if this boy was some fresh 'veteran' coming straight from the battlefield, while she hadn't touched the controls of a KF for years... Heck, was it already a century? She knew that the odds could favor either of them - her with the loads of experience compared to this youngster, but he on the other hand had it all fresh in his memory, a fresh routine of it all while she also had years between her last actual battle. But, she released the air she was holding in her lungs, breathing out in a controlled, calm way, cooling herself to mentally be ready for the battle. Though how just a test of power or skill, whatever kind of a battle it was, it was never to be taken lightly. Slowly, but steadily, she let the old general in her wake... Just another breath, and she was ready. And the signal of the Britannian Chief of Science was all she was now left to wait for.

"This is Kaoto, hear you loud and clear." "All clear here too, Sir. Ready to go, Sir." The connections seemed to be in order as they were supposed to. Fine. Albeit the fact that they did carry quite too many 'Sir's in one sentence to his ears, which made a chuckle escape from his end of the channel, his reply then nonetheless made back in his very much normal tone of voice. "Fine." He had yet to notice another figure approaching him from the direction of the entry to the stadium area. "We might as well procee-" "Pardon my intrusion, Chief." A voice cut his response to the two. "What? Oh, you two wait a bit." The Chief of Science made a gesture with his hand for the messenger to come closer, which resulted the comer handing him a note. Though seeing what it contained, Aloysius merely glanced through the few rows on the shred of paper and soon handed it back to the messenger with a slight nod. Ohh~ Great. "Thank you. Please leave the field now." And with the messenger running away, also Aloysius descended from the podium and headed to a small cabin with large windows, stationed above the rows of stadium benches - a cabin once belonged to commentators and reporters of events taken place there. And even now it sure came in handy - Aloysius would not have wanted to stay down there when the battle began. And from there up, he had the perfect view over the field and the doings of the two competitors. Trotting up the stairs he reached it soon, and returned to the two pilots' channel once he got in and inside settled to sit to the front row. "Okay, now that all the business has been taken care of, we can begin. So. Achrenius, Kaoto - ready? Set. Go."
There was the signal, plain and blunt. Aloysius was not the man for drama pauses.

Izumi had to wait a bit longer after receiving a bit of good sportsmanship from his opponent, as someone came onto the field to hand Aloysius something - what it was, he had no clue. Soon however, the messenger or whatever they were had left, Aloysius going down from the podium, and from there went to some kind of cabin above the stadium's sideline benches - probably where announcers and the like had been back when the place was still open all those years ago. "Okay, now that all the business has been taken care of, we can begin. So. Achrenius, Kaoto - ready? Set. Go." And with that, Izumi's glasgow sped into action, circling the opponent. He had the machine raise its machine gun, and sprayed out bullets in short bursts of three, it would give him greater accuracy and control that way. However, even as he circled, he was trying to close the gap - close combat was a specialty.
