Description:

The majestic figure of Pope Lucius III and the hobo-like existence known as Luca reflect the two sides of Lucius Lawliet.  At the same time the champion of Christianity, and at the same time a mercenary detective at best, Lucius embodies two completely different people, though they are at the root of it the same.  Both have similar quirks, but one who did not know either would be able to see little similarity between the dignified Pope and the dark-lidded pauper.

Pope Lucius III is the public face of Lucius.  As a potential pope, he was raised to be a pope.  Polite, charming and friendly, Lucius III is simultaneously the most respected man in christiandom (Even among the german Lutherans and adherents to the Orthodox Church) and the most desired (and most ineligible) bachelor-for-life in much of Europe.  Gracious and forgiving, Lucius III also embodies some charming quirks, such as a fondness for sweets and tea from his native Wales.  This, if anything, makes him all the more endearing in his humanity.  Especially in comparison to his predecessor, the aged Julian VI.

Luca, on the other hand, is the completely antithesis of the Pope.  Crouched, barefooted, and almost always wearing just a long white shirt and jeans, Luca would be considered to be a geek recluse to anyone who didn't know him.  Just like his Pope side, Luca has a fondness for sweets, though this is seen as gluttony as those that doesn't know Luca.  This is the Pope in private.  While just as well-mannered, Luca's eyes are almost always in shadow along with a messy hairdo.  Almost always crouched, he has a peculiar way of sitting that suggests the opposite of Luca's intellect.

Personality:

As Pope Lucius III, Lucius is charming.  Gracious.  A perfect gentleman, if also a slightly worldy one.  One who somehow seem seductive in his completely clean way.  This is the facade that Lucius Lawliet built up for the public, the side needed to make friends, and to put a bright face to the Papacy.  The one all Christendom will look up to.  But does this make this appearance fake?  Pope Lucius III has his own life, his own habits, his own education.  So in a way, Pope Lucius III is just as real as Lucius Lawliet or Luca.

As Luca, Lucius is polite but also in his way brusque, and unafraid to try to poke into the soul of others.  A second-guesser and a bit of a candyholic, Lucius is generally an unlikeable individual except to one type of person.  However, his intelligence and sound logic has earned him the respect of even the people who know the private face of Lucius III.  He does nothing to hide his quirks (his insistence on standing in a crouch, his tendency to dip cupcakes in tea, etc.)  And yet while nobody can scientifically prove his weird explanations, nobody can disprove 'em either.

History:

The Papacy has had a tumultuous history.  For the first millenia AD, following the teachings of Christ and the Apostle Peter, first Archbishop of Rome, the Vatican was the guiding light of Europe.  This can be said of the Papacy--despite its massacres and injustices (the expulsion of jews, the crusades, the Church's insistence on a heliocentric solar system), it united Europe in the face of both the Huns, the Saracens and the Turks.  At the height of its power, the Papal States was a powerful force, with political power to subjugate kings and its own armies, led by the Pontiff.  However, the power of the Pope was for a time weakened with the growth of Lutheran Protestantism and its supporters, Sweden, Germany and (catholic) France, along with the Church's own corruption.  In this time, the vast tracts of Papal Land were taken from their owners (whom had at times earned it quite dishonestly too).  

Yet it was Napoleon, the harbinger of the Enlightenment and the EU that brought the Papal States back into Glory.  With his attempt to unite Europe under France, Napoleon looked for support from the catholic Church under the Pope, and since then, teh Papal States have regained their status as a formidable and yet small nation with the influence to move armies.  And yet, it was during the early half of the 19th century that the leaders of this grand coalition were most corrupt.  Debauched, worldly, the Papacy had been passed down at times through nepotism and family connections.  And thus, in 1910, the Council of Cardinals, with the death of the last pope to be chosen this way, established several orphanages in which they would select the intelligent.  The skilled.  The excellent, people who were at the peak of humanity in both physical and mental skills.  These candidates were trained from birth to be fighters, politicians, doctors, leaders.  With this brain trust, the Papacy maintained its strength into the 2000's and through the days of the UFN-britannian War, coming through almost unscathed and just as powerful.  And it was in one of these Orphanages that Lucius Lawliet was found under the care of a certain English (take note: not britannian, English.  From the Republic of England, not Britannia) Bishop.  

Lucius Lawliet's family roots are unknown.  While primarily English, he may be from many countries: Japanese, French, Russian, a bit of everything.  Unlike the other Orphans, who first built up their physique and courtly manners before moving onto intelligence, Bishop Quilish Wammy found a curious case in this awkward boy who, while completely ignorant of Courtly Grace, built up his mind.  And yet, this boy's lack of manners did not matter to the Bishop, who made this boy his protege.  Lucius Lawliet proved not to be untalented in manners and the physical, merely uninterested.  Wherever he worked, he reached the peak of performance, though he almost always lost interest soon after.  And yet, his talent was what amazed teh council of Archbishops.  With the hospitalization of Pope Julius VIII, the council of Archbishops hurriedly instated Pope Lucius III.  While he immediately endeared himself to his people, he is still untested.

Okies, so basically this dude is L gone holy, ne? ^,^

Just a quick question before approval: what exactly are you looking for as a charrie? I mean, I get he's the head of the Papal States and whatnot, but how do expect to use that in this RP? Is Lucius a political pope or something? Or is he just ubber holy by day and computer geek by night?

Well, yes, it's based on an alternate L for an alternate timeline. As a character, Lucius would actively put the EU on the front lines either to regain Africa and Russia from the Chinese Fed. or attempt to gain the advantage in South America, which, since the Spanish still were the first to colonize it, is heavily catholic.

Lucius was intended to be an alternate possibility of a world where the Pope never lost his power as he did after the Protestants, and he has actual political and military clout to influence the world. For example, if Pope benedict were to make an appeal now, thousands of catholics would respond--and this is with only his moral power. but it also puts up the second side of the Popes--the womanizers, the politicians, the soldiers, each of whom were completely unfit to be the Pope. So Lucius would be, in a way, the European Zero, but also a person whom, unreligious as he is, represents the strength of religion (as opposed to Asil, whom I PM'd to you about, who, while against religion as a whole, is actually a person who actively believes in Gods).

The way your profile is made out seems to be lean towards a politician (so to give you the appropriate experience), secondly, the description is the appearance of your said character, and third, the three matching pictures is mandatory.
