A concept that I picked up at Another Side/Story (http://gundam00another.forumotion.net), these threads would be for talking what is going on and what has happened in various threads during peoples' absences or just for the people involved to discuss what their character is trying to accomplish in each topic.
In my experience, they are very useful for working out where a thread is going to go next, keeping members up to date, and generally explaining the micro-plots/character interactions that are going on. They can also help folks that are new to the site get caught up on threads that they want to join.
Just a thought.
EDIT:[/u] Another upside would be allowing people to keep appraised of posting order.
