Personality:
On the outside Shinta could be described as a social, handsome, calm, respectful and outgoing fellow. He’s well liked among his fellow people, but as he’s wanted as a traitor by Britannia his social life is reduced to minimum to avoid him getting caught. This makes him a bit frustrated with his life in general as he can’t roam around as freely as he would like to. But this has also taught him many lessons about surviving in the shadows of the Eleven slums, and he’s become quite clever in coming up with ways to distract and escape from Britannian officials, as well as from any situation too tight to his liking.
Though Shinta does bear somewhat humbly with his current way of life, he’s actually quite proud by nature. He knows he’s been blessed with sharp mind and keen eye for observation, and as he also knows how to use his talents, he can be quite confident and even a bit overconfident. This trait of his somewhat leads also to his habit of contacting the enemy leaders during battles, but in most cases Shinta’s words of confident in himself are not in vain – and in case they just slightly are, he’s not too sore a loser. He just tries to learn from what went wrong that time and do it better the next, usually never falling for the same trick twice.
But deep within himself he bears the fury towards Britannian Empire, and this rage has now surfaced as a character known to the world as 'Zero’. As a character Zero doesn’t seem very frightening, but to his opponents Shinta is the most feared and respected enemy. He’s known to be a talented leader and strategic mastermind. Shinta also knows this and therefore he likes to intercept Britannian transmissions and talk to his enemy general while the battle is going on. Shinta has made his Zero into a formidable, determinate and passionate leader, who also remembers to listen to his subordinates. He leads his forces with not even slightest thought of giving up before his mission has been completed and with pure hate towards Britannia as his strongest weapon.
History:
Shinta Akizuki was born and raised in Kyoto until he turned 6. His father, Yôjirô Akizuki, had to move to Tokyo due to his highly ranked military status and so the whole family moved to Japan’s capital. Shinta doesn’t have a clear recollection of this period, but it was really crucial to his shôgi training, for he got his first shôgi board from his father as his 5th birthday present. The board was handcrafted from elm and oak and its pieces were handcrafted ivory painted by Shinta’s great grandfather. The board was a family heritage, but as Yôjirô never learned the strategy to play shôgi, he gave the heirloom to his son. So basically, Shinta learned to play shôgi before he could read. This made him unbelievably talented in real-time strategy and combat strategy. Time came for Shinta to begin his school. First few years went fine but then Shinta’s true nature took over and he started skipping classes and preferred to gamble and play shôgi for money than go to school. The only subject he never missed, not even when he was sick was history. Shinta was obsessed by it. He could’ve written a full length essay of any war, any period or any historical character there was, but especially he was interested in Zero. This was nevertheless not shocking to anyone, for Shinta has always been a Japanese kid and was really interested in combats which Zero really provided. As Shinta turned 11 his father suggested that he’d start a fighting course the army was providing for its employee and their children. Shinta started practicing martial arts first at the army’s special courses, and after they were ceased at a private teacher whose past is still somewhat unknown to him. His teacher, calling himself ‘Torasai’, wasn’t officially a martial arts teacher, more likely a retired martial artist who lost a game of shôgi to Shinta and thus promised to be his teacher. Time went by and Shinta became a mastermind of strategy, and an expert in martial arts. When Shinta turned 18 he realized he’d like to be like his father, a high ranked fighter and strategist in the army. Therefore Shinta joined the army just to witness the Britannia’s reclamation of Area 11. During the Britannia’s reclamation, Shinta’s father refused to be re-positioned in the Britannian Army and to follow the Britannian rule and thus was executed as a rebel and a resistance leader. Shinta could do nothing but bite his teeth and join the Britannian army or he would’ve been executed like his father. After several years of basic military training he realized he had no chance to make any progress in his military career as he was an eleven, so he decided to resign and revenge his father’s death to the Britannia. His last mission at the Britannia’s military was one specific raid to a warehouse, believed to be a drop-off point for smugglers. Orders were to kill everyone. As the raid proceeded, Shinta understood that the warehouse was nothing like a smugglers drop-off point, more like a peaceful elevens clubhouse. Within the dead bodies laid his mother. After seeing his mother and father getting killed because of Britannia he finally snapped. He started his revenge towards Britannia with the “purifying unit”, killing the whole team and escaping with her mother’s body. Hiding from Britannians he travelled back to his roots, to Kyoto, and buried his mother to his family grave. There, alone, hiding from the Britannia he finally figured how he’d have his revenge. The history lessons paid back as he started to revive the legend, the Japanese hero, the Zero.

Brief example of Role Play:
Shinta was walking back from the training grounds where he had been giving a small speech to his troops to raise their morale before the battle. He had also checked the condition of their equipment, greeted their new arrivals and calculated the amount of their knightmare frames and their knightmare pilots. The winner of the oncoming battle would depend on each and every one of them. He had heard that the enemy general he was facing was one of the Emperor’s finest. This made him smirk underneath his mask. He had been waiting for a great battle for a while to test his new pilots and his new strategies. No one could see his face though, due to the mask he was wearing. This on the other hand made him a little sad and frustrated for Shinta was not the person who liked to crawl in the shadows and keep his face hidden in front of his opponent. But this was what he had to bear if he was going to revenge his parents’ murders and to reclaim Japan from the Britannian Empire. Sigh.
He walked down the corridor and turned left from the corner. He would soon be at his command post and he could finally see who he was facing. Shinta got nearly excited. ‘Oh I hope this one would have even some talent.’ He could’ve been compared to a small child in a candy store, except that there was only one candy, and Shinta had no clue what it would taste like. The unpredictability tasted even sweeter and Shinta almost ran to the end of the corridor where only one door stood. “Zero” he whispered. Oh how much had he already achieved under the ingenious mask of the former hero of Japan.
He gripped tightly his precious shogi board and opened the door leading to his private quarters. He would be commanding the battle from here this time instead of the battlefield where he usually was, near the battle. The room was big. Its walls were covered with monitors but the room itself was quite empty. There were no furniture, but a small chair in front of a small glass table. The table was too elegant and stylish for Shintas style, but under these circumstances it’d had to do its job. Shinta walked calmly across the room next to the chair and was about to sit when he realized something wasn’t quite right. He stared at the blank monitor screens for a while before he understood he was still holding the shogi board at his hand and was about to sit on it. ‘Oh, but of course’ he gave a little smile and placed the board on the table. He then sat and started to place the ivory pieces on the board. He seized his work at the last piece, the black king. “Zero. Lelouch. I wonder if we met, who’d win the game.” he smirked a bit. Though respecting the former Zero Shinta’s selfish side told he couldn’t be beaten by a minor kid. ‘Nevertheless the battle would be unforgettable. Although we play different kind of chess, I believe you wouldn’t beat me in any kind of chess.’
Shinta was so deep in his thoughts thinking whether he’d win the old Zero in chess that he hadn’t noticed the monitors turning on and the faces of his Commander-in-Chief, Secretary General and his 7 division captains. ”Zero” his Commander-in-Chief awoke him from his thoughts “We wait for your commands”. “Hmm, of course. Sakura, what is our status?” ”The crew stands ready, everybody’s on their own position.” ”Good. Division captains report!” ”Division 1 all set” “2nd division ready” “3rd standing by” “4th division check” “5th rolling” “6th waiting for your sign” “7th ready”. ”Tsurugi, how’s the flank?” ”All set and ready for you, Zero-sama.” ”All right then, let’s see who are we against.” Shinta closed all other windows and took connect to the intercepted enemies lines. Soon the scarred face of an elderly general popped up on the monitor. ”Greetings, my dear enemy. I hope you’re ready for our match.” ”YOU! How did you… Well it doesn’t matter. I’m going to crush you today, ‘dear enemy’.” He spat. ”You are outnumbered. I’ve got nearly 4 times the men you’ve got, so this isn’t going to take long.” The general disconnected.’So be it then, a short fight is what you want…’ “1st division, begin the assault.”
