Eve numbly stared out the window overlooking the courtyard. The wedding ceremony was tomorrow, and she knew it would only end in pain and sorrow. Her father had given her the order the previous day that her assignment had been fulfilled. Her new assignment was to terminate the first prince. Unfortunately, that was something she wasn't sure she could do. The two had been through a lot together and she felt herself falling for the prince incredibly hard. Perhaps she could stay by his side as his knight.
'Father will understand right?' she thought to herself. 'After all, this is love. Maybe I can convince him that the prince is more valuable than he thinks.'
Buried in her own thoughts, she did not see a certain blond knight approaching her.

"God that girl is such a pain in the ass," Eriol mumbled as he walked down the hallway headed toward the knight's chambers. He had just been spared yet another game of Ayame's by her beloved Sensei. He couldn't have been more thankful for such a demon teacher in his life.
Looking at one of the clocks on the wall, he noticed it was well almost midnight. "Ugh," he groaned while picking up his pace. "Hopefully I'll manage to get some sleep seeing as how the wedding is tomorrow."
As the blond knight turned down the last corridor that led to his chambers, he was rather surprised to see the very young blue haired girl staring out one of the windows. Now, not all the knights lived in the palace, usually those that had other responsibilities. The model before him was one of those who did not live in the palace, which was why he was surprised to see her.
"Fancy seeing you here," Eriol said while approaching her. "Staying because of the wedding tomorrow?"

The blue haired model barely acknowledge the other knight. "Hmm? Oh yeah." She responded, only breaking her gaze from the window for a short moment. She didn't have time to talk to this womanizing jerk. She had serious problems on her mind!
As much as she wanted to, she knew she couldn't stay with the prince. Eve had been raised in the Directorate since she was a small child. Even if she wanted to quit her job as a spy and give up trying to please her father, she couldn't. No one left the Directorate. At least, not for very long. The model had heard some stories when she was younger and no matter how hard some one tried to escape, they either always came back, or disappeared never to be seen or heard from again. Personally, she didn't want either to happen. If she were to leave it would be for good.
What am I saying!? she mentally yelled. The Directorate is my home! They're my family! But... After spending time with Euric... Maybe they're wrong... Her hand ran quickly through her hair in frustration. Why was this so hard!? It should be an easy decision. Obviously, she should stay with her family.
The only question now was who was family and who wasn't.
Finally turning to look at the other knight, Eve began to speak. "Perhaps you can be of some help to me after all." She paused, trying to get the wording right. "What's a family supposed to be like?"

This girl was also a pain. She never seemed to be paying attention to anything anyone said except for the words of the first prince. It was rather annoying really, so Eriol wasn't the least bit surprised when she brushed him off. He merely rolled his eyes and searched his thoughts for some suitable conversation topic. Coming up blank, he remembered that it was getting late and that the two of them needed to be rested in order to be prepared for any wedding crashers the following day. However, just as he opened his mouth to speak, the model quickly turned to face him and asked a bizarre question.
"What's a family supposed to be like?"
Now this caught the blond knight off guard. He knew very little about the girl, but from this question he could at least assume she was an orphan.
"Well," he started, trying to quickly come up with an answer. "A family is filled with love. They'd do anything just to see each other happy. Families protect each other and pick you back up when you've fallen. A family is always there for you when you need them most."
Hopefully, that would appease the girl. He wasn't lying. It was the good things that made a family, but he decided it would be best to leave out the bad things. "It must've been tough growing up all alone. Well, that doesn't matter now. After all, you've got the first prince to look after you and care for you now." Tucking a strand of hair behind his ear, he waited for the model to respond. After all, this was really the most she'd ever said to him.

Eve stood quietly, pinning the other knight down with an unwavering gaze.
"A family is filled with love. They'd do anything just to see each other happy. Families protect each other and pick you back up when you've fallen. A family is always there for you when you need them most."
She stood absorbing the information. The model knew she had done all of the above for her father, but had he done the same for her. Was she just another one of his minions? Of course Hebe was, but surely he cared for her. After all, he raised her from when she was a small child. If he didn't care, then why would he have raised her? Eve shook her head to get rid of the thoughts. Of course he loved her. And since they were family, then he would definitely understand her decision to stay by the prince's side. She was suddenly snapped out of her thoughts as Eriol continued speaking.
"It must've been tough growing up all alone. Well, that doesn't matter now. After all, you've got the first prince to look after you and care for you now."
A deep blush appeared suddenly on her face. "There is nothing between us!" she snapped. "Er well..." There was a short pause. "Anyway, I do have a problem. See after the wedding I need to leave for a modeling tour around the world." She had rehearsed this story several times to make sure she got it right. "I just can't decide if I want to do it, or stay by Euric's side."

"There is nothing between us!" Eriol's eyes narrowed slightly at this. He definitely did not appreciate being snapped at. It was a mere observation. One he felt gave away more than the model cared to admit. However, being a fellow knight, he would let it slide. For now anyway.
"I just can't decide if I want to do it, or stay by Euric's side."
The blond raised an eyebrow at this development. "If it were me, there'd be no doubt in my mind. My sworn duty is to protect the empire. My personal life no longer has a say in my decisions, especially now that I am a knight. I will do whatever it takes to keep my little bratty charge safe from harm. Even if it costs me my life. The fact that you're hesitating about this makes me feel a little uneasy." He paused, trying to word the next bit carefully so as not to offend her, or worse. "The moment he asked you to be his knight, your modeling career was over. I think deep down you knew that, hence why you accepted."
Eriol felt as if her hesitation wasn't over her modeling career. No one in the world could be that selfish to risk the life of someone they promised to protect for a selfish desire. No, this had to be something deeper and obviously more personal if she wasn't willing to share the truth.

"The moment he asked you to be his knight, your modeling career was over. I think deep down you knew that, hence why you accepted." Her modeling career was indeed over, however, it appeared the her fellow knight was not the least bit convinced by her original cover story. Just as the first prince was not. He grew evermore curious with each passing moment. That much was painfully obvious. She would have to use her concocted story to keep him from asking questions.
Just to help sell her story, Eve glanced around them to ensure no one was nearby. Reaching into her top, she pulled out a small envelope. It was plain and merely had Euric's full name written on the front. She handed it to the blond knight, he seemed to hesitate slightly in taking it from her.
"That letter is to only be opened by the first prince. It's a detailed description of my next mission." She paused momentarily to let the knight absorb the information. "Before you ask, I'm a personal spy of the Emperor. After the wedding, I'm being sent on a top secret mission to infiltrate the Black Knight's base. As a fellow knight, I fell you deserve to know some of the truth, but this is all I can tell you. For your own safety." Turning slightly, she continued. "Please deliver that to the first prince for me. I'll trust that you won't read it. I'm counting on you." Winking, she walked away, heading for her quarters to get some rest before the big event that was to take place the next afternoon.

Eriol hesitated momentarily before numbly taking the envelope outstretched toward him. He examined the small envelope. There was obviously a small slip of paper inside. This just made the knight evermore curious.
"That letter is to only be opened by the first prince. It's a detailed description of my next mission." Something was off... very off. He allowed her to continue speaking uninterrupted. "Before you ask, I'm a personal spy of the Emperor. After the wedding, I'm being sent on a top secret mission to infiltrate the Black Knight's base. As a fellow knight, I fell you deserve to know some of the truth, but this is all I can tell you. For your own safety. Please deliver that to the first prince for me. I'll trust that you won't read it. I'm counting on you."
With that, the model headed off toward her own quarters, or at least, that's what she appeared to have done. Staring at the simple handwriting on the front of the envelope, Eriol's legs mindlessly began carrying him to his quarters. Yes, something most definitely wasn't clicking about her story. The prince had to know she was a spy for the Emperor, otherwise appointing her as his knight would have never happened. So then, why go through all the trouble of writing it out in a letter rather than tell the prince himself. Flopping down to lay on his small bed, he held the letter up to the light. Perhaps this was a love letter. Frowning he sat up. There were just too many inconsistencies. He felt as if the answers all lay in the envelope she handed him. Without thinking, he flipped the envelope over and opened it. He quickly pulled the folded slip of paper out. Unfolding it, his eyes scanned the paper quickly reading it.
Euric If you are reading this letter, then it means I have already betrayed you and am no longer in your presence. I did not lie about being a spy, however I am a spy for an underground organization. As much as I wish to, I cannot give you more than that. My mission was to seduce you and extract vital information about the empire from you. In the end, I was to dispose of you, but I found myself actually falling for you, so I could not carry out my entire mission. I beg your forgiveness for this betrayal. Perhaps in another time and life we could be together.
Eve
Blue eyes widened considerably. How could a spy, a female spy infiltrate that deeply into the empire!? He had to inform the prince immediately. The moment he jumped to his feet, he felt a prick in his neck and a cold sensation as something was injected into him. Turning to face his attacker, he stumbled as the drug seemed to work quickly. His eyes, although beginning to blur, fell upon the blue haired beauty who had given him the letter in the first place.
"Explain yourself!" the blond knight managed to snap out.

Eve waited silently in the shadows as she heard the other knight's foot steps echoing softly in the hall. Heading towards his room most likely, she reasoned. Quietly, she followed him, always concealed in the shadows. Once at his chamber's doorway, she used a small compact mirror to see into the room. From what she could see, he was lying on his bed. A wave of relief washed over her. He wasn't going to read it after all. Just as she was about to head to her chambers, movement caught her eye. The model scowled softly as she saw the knight sitting there reading the letter. Placing the compact back in her pocket, she reached into her shirt where a hidden pocket lay concealing a small needle filled with a strong sleeping drug. Pulling it out, she pressed it slightly until a small amount of liquid came out.
The blue haired model rushed into Eriol's chambers, and just as he stood from his bed, she quickly injected the needle into the largest vein in his neck. She pressed down hard to ensure that all of the drug had been introduced into his blood stream. The needle was pulled out as he stumbled away from her. Eve crossed her arms, and dark glare on her face as the blond knight turned to face her.
"Explain yourself!" he snapped.
Glare still in place, she began to speak. "All you had to do was deliver the letter to Euric tomorrow after the wedding. Father has plans for the wedding you see." She held the needle up and looked at it for emphasis. "If I had to guess how long you'd be out for. I'd say, you'd be lucky to make it to the after part tomorrow." Violet eyes shifted back to the blond who was now kneeling on the floor struggling to stay conscious. "I could have easily killed you, but I don't like killing unless it's absolutely necessary." Eve knelt down and leaned in so she was merely inches from the knight's face. "Consider this your warning. If we meet again, I will have to kill you."
Standing she walked over to the doorway before turning to look at the blond one last time. "Pleasant dreams," she cooed before exiting the room.

"All you had to do was deliver the letter to Euric tomorrow after the wedding. Father has plans for the wedding you see."
"Father?" he gasped out, head swimming
"If I had to guess how long you'd be out for. I'd say, you'd be lucky to make it to the after part tomorrow."
"Dammit," he growled. This would not do. How could he protect Ayame at the wedding now? Especially if whatever Eve's organization, which Eriol merely assumed to be the Black Knights, had planned was to go down tomorrow during the wedding. If the girl died, it would be his fault entirely. Quickly losing energy, the knight collapsed to a kneeling position, pushing himself to stay conscious.
"I could have easily killed you, but I don't like killing unless it's absolutely necessary." Eriol blinked his eyes a few times to try and keep the blurriness at bay, but it didn't do much to help. He quickly found himself face to face with the beautiful model and could do nothing but glare feebly back. "Consider this your warning. If we meet again, I will have to kill you." He growled, his mind too fuzzy to really come up with anything to say. Unfocused blue eyes watched helplessly as the model headed towards the doorway.
"No," he weakly moaned.
"Pleasant dreams," he heard her say before his mind finally gave in. "No..." The blond's limbs gave way beneath him and he crashed to the floor, quickly succumbing to the darkness engulfing his mind.
