"So this is Japan?" I said in awe as I looked around at all the many buildings.
This was definitely nothing like back home. Perhaps it was because Britannia had taken over Japan, or maybe Japan was always this industrialized. I didn't know. The only things I knew about were written in books. Those were the only things I was permitted to see that were born outside the palace.
I was only slightly worried about us getting caught. If were to get caught, Lei-Ling would be executed no questions asked. I wasn't sure what would happen to me though. So as much as I wanted to explore, I had to do it quickly and quietly so as not to attract attention.
It felt weird being out of my traditional robes. I don't think I had ever wore civilian clothes in my entire life. I don't think Lei-Ling ever wore civilian clothes either on because of the sour look she currently had on her face. I was wearing a baseball cap with practically all of my hair stuffed up into it and rather large black sunglasses. If anyone were to recognize my face, it would definitely not end well. I also wore a white t-shirt that said 'Princess' with a little crown around it, blue denim shorts, and sandals. Something the vendor called flip-flops. The were comfortable to say the least. They felt like my regular formal shoes, only much flatter.
I looked to Lei-Ling as an important thought struck me. "Oh yes, I nearly forgot to tell you. While we're here, my name is Ayaka Uotani, and your name is Keiko Matsumoto." I smiled up at my guardian. She was much taller than me.
As much as I wanted to take off and run, I knew I couldn't for fear of being separated with Lei-Ling. Hopefully, no one from China would be here. It was crucial that no one would discover my true identity. So I prayed quickly to the gods before I began to walk around looking for something to eat. After all it was hard being undercover.
