Diplomatic and strategic, Lei is typically very even tempered. She doesn’t anger without outside assistance, and is very calm. Her temperament comes hand-in-hand with her strategic mind. She needs to be open to looking at things from every angle, so she is very rational and decisive. This diplomatic face is what she presents to the general public, making her very well-liked and easy to work with for the most part. Her tactical side however can be rather cold and unforgiving. Lei believes very heavily in numbers and sometimes depersonalizes battles (although she certainly takes individuals’ strength, skill, and luck into account). She doesn’t have a soft spot for people’s feelings in combat. Despite her sometimes ruthless tactics, however, Lei operates under her own sort of honor code with friends and allies. She is very protective of those she trusts and considers a friend (whether the feeling is mutual or not), and is equally defensive of any charge she is given. Lei values trust above all else and will keep a confidence forever.
Both at and away from her planning table Lei brings her manipulating side into play. Even with friends, Lei occasionally enjoys finding buttons to push to get a rise from a person. It more often occurs when she’s bored, but it’s not limited to that. This behavior stems from her desire to never have something be out of her control. From time to time it is comforting to her to remind herself that she is still in control because once she loses that control, Lei’s world comes crashing down around her.
Something of a perfectionist, Lei has trouble leaving things half-finished. Her work style is very linear, meaning she finishes one thing before moving onto the next, so a disruption to that process can often throw her off for substantial amounts of time depending on the severity of the interruption. Mood swings are not uncommon for Lei, and while she does her best to control them if she’s in the middle of something important, they do not disappear. Rather, they increase in strength the longer they’re suppressed.
History:
When her parents were killed, Lei was still very young. Both her mother and father had been strategists for the Chinese Dynasty, and they died together in a battle they had no hope of winning. Lei, who had no other living relatives, was selected by the Geass Directorate to eventually work for them. From the young age of six, Lei was instructed in both the physical and mental aspects of combat and even though she was a capable fighter, she had the same gift for planning that her parents had had.
Lei was a fun-loving child, and quite a handful. She had a habit of running off on her own (even though she couldn’t go far), and being a bit of a rebel. Upon acquiring a geass of her own, however, the free-spirit mellowed out. Looking at the aura of the other excited children just gave her a headache. Instead Lei delved into books, things that didn’t feel. They were purely fact and they fascinated her. From her tenth birthday into her early teen years, Lei read as much as she could and kept every book she had ever looked at all while continuing her guardian training. Most of her knowledge was acquired during this period, but with knowledge came curiosity.
When she was fifteen, Lei managed to ‘escape.’ She considered it a big accomplishment and headed back to the Chinese Dynasty to see what had changed. She was met with a mostly oblivious population who was content to let their ruler be manipulated like a marionette, but the palace gates were closed to her. No one wanted a child, no matter how smart she claimed to be, helping them with anything. Sorely disappointed in the world she’d grown to love in books, Lei returned to the Directorate seeking a mission. Anything to get her out into the world to make it into what she wanted.
Her wish was granted a year later when she returned to the Chinese Dynasty.
Goal or Dream:
Always Lei-Ling’s outward goal is to protect her charge and do her job. Inwardly, she dreams of making the world into the place she loved in books.
Lei-Ling was trained first and foremost as a protector and strategist. Having nothing against either position, she does her job as needed and follows orders for the most part. The grey area comes when the orders interfere with her own agenda in ‘fixing’ the world. Despite this, however, she would never willingly fail a charge or a mission in general. To meet both her mission and personal goals, she may deviate from specific orders and follow her own path to meet more or less the same ends.
As a child and adolescent, Lei-Ling read everything from history books to novels. She developed her idea of exactly what the world should be as a result. Upon seeing it for what it was, however, she was sorely disappointed. Politicians manipulated the figureheads that she’d grown to love instead of serving them as they should. People grabbed for power that they had no right to, determined to cut down anyone who got in their place. Lei-Ling was angered by the disorder the world was in and the grandeur that disillusioned the common people. She dreams of changing it even if she herself has to manipulate others to do so.
The world needs order, but Lei has her own principles. She would never abandon a temporary goal for the sake of her long-term dream. She has plenty of time to fix the world and restore rulers to their proper places after all. At the same time, a charge or assignment that requires her to assist those unsuited for their position of power would not sit well with her and while she could never willingly cast them aside, she may allow for intentional minor errors.

Faction: Chinese Dynasty/Geass Directorate
Geass:
As one of a group of children brought to the Geass Directorate for training, Lei was given a geass of her own. She typically sees the world in more color than normal people do. She sees emotion in color. People talk about being able to feel the love, hate, or joy radiating off of a person, but Lei can actually see that. Colored auras wreath everyone within a 500 meter radius. The brighter the color, the stronger the feeling. Lei’s ability doesn’t end with just seeing the auras; she can also influence people’s moods. Within 50 meters Lei can change the mood of any number of people by adjusting their aura.
While Lei tries to limit her ability to just seeing and gently feeling the colors, the closer a strong emotion is to her, the more likely it is to bleed into her own aura whether her geass is active or not. This is what causes her periodic mood swings as well as what feeds her need for control. If she were to open her own emotions, Lei could sync with another person and consciously feel their aura. Doing so would allow her to know how the person is feeling and why. If she concentrates enough she could even determine what (if anything) the person plans to do about his/her current emotional state. The problem with her synchronization is pulling out. Sorting through the emotional pool and pulling out her own essence isn’t an easy task, but it’s why she tries to keep her own mood very steady and secure, so she can find it easily. Lei fears losing part of herself in someone else.
Her geass (even while inactive) leaves her with the side effect of having her own eye color change in accordance with her aura. Their rightful color is cerulean.

Brief example of Role Play:The streets of the capital were bustling with activity as Lei-Ling left the palace grounds and wandered into the city. She needed a break. As much as she loved her books, she wasn’t above getting a headache from constantly reading them, so she took her cell phone and headed out for some fresh air in search of a new book. It had been a while since she’d been into the city for reasons other than the fact that she had work to do. She never knew what she was going to encounter by going out, and as she moved through the streets Lei felt brushes of joy, sorrow, fury, and a substantial amount of fear. Even breathing and a calm center was what kept the harsher ones from pushing their way into Lei’s own mood. They hurt a bit, but stayed out of her own aura.
A short while later Lei took sanctuary in her book store. These were a certain type of people. The regulars to stores like this were people like her. Calm, even tempered, well-mannered. There was the occasional visitor who upset the nice balance but not today. Today it was quiet and Lei moved through the rows of books, searching for something new. There was a man near the counter seething about something. Lei didn’t need to be close to him to tell. It was his body language. With a slight smile, Lei activated her geass. There it was. Anger glowing all around him. After her shaky trip here, Lei wanted some fun so she fed it. She fed his anger, pushing him above his level of restraint then watched the fun unfold.
Apparently the customer was angry at another customer. Lei didn’t particularly care why. She just took the book she had found and watched the brawl that had broken out in the shop. Its entertainment value dropped after a short while, but it had done its job. With a pleased smile, Lei bought the book from the flustered man at the counter who was unsure what to do about the fight in his store then left the fight to work itself out. She felt better as she returned to the palace. The strong emotions didn’t hurt as much, and now she had a new book to read. Lei decided that the day had been rather successful.
Role Playing Experience in Years: I’ve been role-playing for 8 years or so. I started with a Gundam RPG, and have done a few anime-based games since. I have also been in two super/metahuman games. One is still running. My favorite games have been the fantasy games I’ve been in with original plots and original characters. As far as characters go, I usually find myself playing ‘good’ characters (with a few exceptions). Overall I think I mostly play girls, but I enjoy male characters just as much if not more. My favorite characters to play are guardians, protectors, especially when I have someone to play opposite. Other characters I enjoy are those with a secret to hide. Some terrible past or just something about them they don’t enjoy sharing.
