Equipment and Design Features
The Lightning Generator Cannon is one of the odd weapons birthed from Ke-Lan's mind. An alternative to the Hadron Cannon, the LGC is capable of destruction of a whole new level.
The LGC consists of a pincer-like design around a tesla coil. The tesla coil is encased on a protective spike made of a special alloy that increases ionization of particles, creasing the coil's ability to generate electricity. On it's own, the spike, known as a Shio Rod, will spread powerful electric bolts in an omnidirectional way. This is where the pincer design comes in.
The inside of the pincer is lined with focusing nodes that allow the LGC to shoot a focused bolt of electricity forward rather than arbitrarily spread it. The basic system has a fixed pincer, though advanced systems exist with an adjustable pincer. The farther the pincer spreads, the more the bolt will spread, seeking the closest conductive material. If spread all the way, the LGC will create more than one bolt at a time, though the power of each bolt will be diminished.
The LGC can fire bursts of electricity, or a continuous bolt. However, using a continuous bolt for an extended period of time will overheat the weapon. The LGC is prone to overheating due to it's high demand of power. This is why it has ventilation vents on the rear, along with a liquid cooling system inside the pincer itself.
Finally, the LGC features an intensity knob installed in the cockpit. At lowest intensity the bolts will act as an electromagnetic pulse device, shorting the electronic devices of a target. At highest intensity, the blast could pierce through the armor of a knightmare. There is also the factor of the conductivity of electricity. If a cockpit is not insulated, the pilot could easily fry with a medium intensity blast from the LGC.
Development RP:
Ke-Lan would have rather spent time working on her bio-research, but her higher-ups demanded more focus on the creation of knightmares and new weapons. She always felt bored by these machines... sure they where amazing devices of war, but Ke-Lan always thought of them as impersonal. Regardless... she saw their importance in modern warfare, and she couldn't deny that China required quite a few improvements in their arsenal.
Teams A-02 through C-12 where charged with these tasks. Ke-Lan, being the OCD bitch that she was, liked to do surprise inspections... and today was just one of those days.
The location was the secluded lab she had declared the Experimental Weapons Research Facility, or as it had been code-named, Heishehui. Team B-09 was in charge here, and the tests revolved around Ke-Lan's odd and at times rather unorthodox ideas for weaponry.
Ke-Lan made her way into the main testing area, a large hall surrounded by thick metal walls. The room was easily the size of a warehouse, cluttered with countless of machines. The scientists there gasped as they saw their superior walk in, quickly stopping what they where doing and saluting her. Ke-Lan waved her gloved hand in the air, dismissing them, "Report." she demanded immediately.
"The Shio-rod is operational, Doctor. We lost two men in the testing. However, the design was a success." the chief scientist reported, her eyes always peering at her data pad, trying to avoid eye contact with Ke-Lan.
"That's your own fault. I clearly stated in my instructions never to activate the Shio rod without a focusing system. Please tell me you've built one. We are way behind schedule on this device." Ke-Lan's eyes were piercing through the head scientist, a woman clearly twice her age.
"W-we've built a focusing system as per your instructions, yes. We were just getting ready to test it, Dr. Ling-Shio." the chief said, hesitating before turning to the device behind her.
In the middle of the testing area rested a pincer-like device with a Shio-rod in the middle. A multitude of cables were connected to it, spreading all around the hall to generators, computers, and all sorts of machinery. The device was pointed forward, aiming at the beat-up husk of a Gun-Ru.
Ke-Lan narrowed her eyes, staring at the device, analyzing it. She nodded softly, "Begin the test."
"Activate shields and begin charging!" the chief called out.
A series of Blaze Luminous shields were risen to protect the working area. Ke-Lan looked unamused. The device began humming, beginning it's ionization process. The staff in the hall became tense, remembering the time they tested the Shio rod. Ke-Lan, however, looked straight at the Gun-Ru, waiting for results.
"Start testing at lowest power." the chief directed.
"Test at full power." Ke-Lan stated flatly.
There was a gasp in the crowd of scientists. The chief opened her mouth to object, but Ke-Lan's sudden stare made her close her mouth.
A technician turned the dial to full throttle, the device humming loudly, "Fire weapon." Ke-Lan commanded monotonously.
The technician pressed a button. A flash of white filled the room, along with the booming sound of thunder. The equipment rattled with the sound of of the weapon.
The husk of the Gun-Ru sat in place, it's armor pierced all the way through, with a scorch mark decorating the wall behind it. Ke-Lan stared in silence, hearing the warning beep of a console, indicating the device had overheated. Ke-Lan finally spoke, allowing the chief to breathe again, "Install a liquid cooling system along with a ventilation exhaust. Begin production immediately. Send me a full report to show to the High Eunuchs." Ke-Lan took a look around at the many faces looking at her, before looking back at the chief, "Well done."
With that Ke-Lan did an about-face and walked out of the room. Once she was gone the staff let out a communal cheer of success. It wasn't every day that Ke-Lan congratulated her staff... and it wasn't every day that a weapon tested in Heishehui didn't take the life of a single scientist. It was truly a good day for team B-09.
