Just thought about it. Since everything in Code Geass is an alternative setting, diverging off from the colonial era from it's historical roots to an alternate timeline. So I was rewatching an episode of Code Geass. Saw the one where it had C.C. running around in a battlefield reminiscent to WWI, with the German-looking soldiers running around in their pickelhaubes (pointy helmets) and whatnot. So the question is, was there ever a WWII to ever be referenced, a rise of power for all those fascists or did something else happen in Europe?

Yeah i think something similar to a WWII might have happened which is probably why the EU was united in the first place. But in retrospect i dont really think it was a World War since most of the pother factions or rather countries had anything to do with it. It remained a uropean affair for the most part.

Well, if you infer it, in code Geass the strongest nation in the EU is Germany (its also the nation that was the most unwilling to abandon the E.U. Meaning it had some leadership position.) France is also the weakest. That resembles the situation following the Franco-Prussian War, when United Germany defeated France. France was trying to get back at Germany in World War I, and it won only because Great Britain and America Stepped in. But since Britannia didn't interfere and, according to Code Geass History, Napoleon invaded mainland Britannia (meaning the Irish, Scots and English won't like France too much), that means that France would have lost World War I too. So you can probably infer that both World War I and the Franco Prussian War occurred too. If France was defeated twice, it MIGHT want to kill Germany even more, OR it might be too dead to do anything about it. Either Way, World War I existed (since Trench Warfare and Tanks are shown in the Code Geass Anime And Manga), but whether World War II existed or not, we can probably guess that France lost.
