» YOU'RE IN THEN OUTPERSONALITYOutside of battle, Aiden seems rather rude at times. Although he comes from nobility, and as such has impeccable manners when he so desires, he doesn't feel comfortable in the position he has been put in as of late, and as such acts out against his status. Based on his father's recent demise, he is expected to become the man of the Hughes household when he would rather be living the life of a typical Britannian pilot. He speaks his mind regularly, and has gotten in trouble for his mouth on more than one occasion. Even in the presence of his clear social superiors, he cannot always stay his tongue, and as such many consider him to be a young brat who has much to learn about the way things are. In battle, his brash personality is a benefit for him, however. He exudes confidence in himself and his ability, and as such inspires others to rally around him. He has gotten out of more than one troublesome situation in the past based on sheer bravado, as he is able to surprise the enemy with the ferocity of a cornered animal.
Contrary to what one might believe based on his pedigree, Aiden is hardly an ideal subordinate. In order to properly explain why this is true, one must start with his love of battle. Ever since joining the Britannian military, he has found that only in the heat of battle is he allowed the clarity and peace of mind that he so desires. Always focused on bringing his enemies to their knees, being able to hone in on an opponent rather than dealing with the plethora of issues that he deals with in his ordinary life. Instead of being focused on keeping up appearances and making himself worthy of his family name, the playing field is leveled, and he is able to engage in a true test of skill. He finds battle to be so exhilarating that he will actively seek out more and more dangerous and skilled opponents, and as such will put himself in harm's way for the sake of this quest.
While this seems to be an attribute that one might see in a somewhat reliable soldier, as they are willing to sacrifice themselves for their comrades, this longing for battle permeates through his every action. This means that he would rather find battle than obey the orders of his superiors, and while he has been commended by his superiors and those around him many times for his natural skill with a Knightmare frame, he has been unable to hold a position above the rank of basic soldier simply because of this flaw of his. In fact, it has been remarked by more than one of his fellow soldiers that Aiden's potential for advancement would have little to no ceiling if only he would humble himself and fall into rank with the others more.
This lack of prestige he has experienced has bothered him more than most, though not in the way that one might expect. Because of his father's previous involvement with the Britannian military as a Knight of the Rounds, Aiden sees it as his own personal goal to distinguish himself from his father, and be seen as his own person, rather than as the son of a famous warrior. Therefore, the fact that he is unable to advance based merely on his own skill bothers him, and in his heart he fears that this is a testament to the fact that he will never be able to shed the image of the fortunate son of a Knight. Yet, at the same time, Aiden's relationship with his father's memory is not so shallow as that. As a boy, he had idolized his father, and sought to be like him and make a name for himself in the Britannian military. These feelings of adoration for his father have not waned whatesoever as he grew, and although he holds the way in which people see him in contempt, he does not blame his father for that. In fact, if anything he also feels as if he may be disgracing his father because of his misconduct, and this brings the shame of his apparent failure to a whole new level.
In spite of his father's recent passing, his feelings about the man have not necessarily faded with the absence of a physical bring to latch onto, but rather have changed form slightly. There are certain role models, mentors, and superiors that Aiden sees in a very fatherly light, and as such he will follow their orders to his very grave if necessary. On the battlefield in this situation, Aiden is absolutely at his most dangerous. His own prodigious skill with a Knightmare frame, combined with his willingness to obey orders turns him into a sort of assassin for this particular superior. Generally, he is employed on the battlefield for the purpose of taking out the most skilled of enemy units. This does not seem to be out of character for him, as he generally seeks out the most skilled opponent possible, however, his movements are far more precise when under the command of a superior who has reached “mentor” status for him. Whereas in a typical situation, he would not only obliterate the enemy unit, but also move on to others nearby and seek to destroy as many units as possible, in the above situation he could instead be ordered to take down this one unit and then withdrawal for other purposes, more like a scalpel than a saw. The necessary presence of a mentor figure makes Aiden an unattractive candidate for a promotion, however, as expecting him to operate on his own as a high ranking officer could have disastrous consequences.
Due to his considerable skill, some have taken to attempting to coach and educate Aiden on exactly why his obedience is necessary on the battlefield. It is thought that if one could break through Aiden's stubborn personality, and convince him to change his ways, he would not only be able to rise through the ranks consistently, as is mentioned above, but could also turn out to be one of the most valuable warriors of any conflict.

» MEMORIES, SUPPOSED TO FADERELATIVES
Father: Roderick Hughes (Deceased)
Mother: Elaine Hughes
HISTORY Born the noble son of Elaine and Roderick Hughes, hopes were high for the young Aiden from the time of his conception. Always given the absolute best in all facets of his life, from education to recreation, he never truly knew anything about the lower class of not only the various areas controlled by Britannia, but also those lower born Britannians around him. The idea that some people were not waited on hand and foot seemed foreign to him, and he grew up as one might expect a privileged child to grow: rather self absorbed. As he approached the age of 7, however, he soon began to see that many people around him had trouble remembering his name. Rather than calling him Aiden, they might refer to him as “Roderick's boy”, or “Son of the Knight”. This bothered him, but he found that it happened not only with a select few, but with many people. As the Knight of Two, his father had served Britannia with honor and distinction, and was famous throughout the nation as a great warrior. Soon, Aiden decided that this was the cause of his anonymity with those around him, and already he resolved to make a name for himself.
Approaching his father, he voiced his complaints about the actions of those around him. Roderick Hughes was always a somewhat wise, though occasionally harsh man. He plainly stated to his son that if he wanted to make a name for himself, then he would have to show his worth. Being that he was not exceptionally intelligent or innovative (at least not compared to other nobles his age), Aiden decided that he, too, would join the Britannian military and attempt to make a name for himself. Informing his father of this decision, Aiden was sure that he would be told there was little to no chance that any military career could surpass Roderick's. To his surprise, however, his father set about instructing him in the basics of military service. First taught the code of ethics that any soldier was expected to follow, he was then instructed in the basics of hand to hand combat, and battlefield tactics that would prove useful in a typical conflict. As he grew, weaponry was slowly integrated into his arsenal, as he became proficient with numerous firearms. Finally, his father allowed him to set foot in the cockpit of his own Knightmare, and though he was not permitted to use it for fear that his lack of experience would lead to disaster, he was instructed in exactly how one used the machine. Although he was never permitted to fully use his father's Knightmare, the Pellinore, he was eventually allowed to learn basic movement other such functions in a controlled environment.
At the age of 13, Aiden had learned more about combat and using a Knightmare frame than most children knew about mathematics, and he found that this new lifestyle consumed him. He was always thirsty to learn more and find out more about combat on the battlefield, and his growth in maturity and understanding regarding these things was alarming, even frightening at times. He felt as though he was born to fight, and soon his father asked when he had intentions of enlisting with the Britannian military. His response was that he would enlist soon enough, but he did not want his father to put in a good word for him. It was bad enough that his surname meant anyone and everyone he met would see him in terms of his father; getting a position based on his father's influence would be unacceptable.
Finally, at 15 years old, Aiden enlisted and was accepted into the Britannian military. Although most soldiers enlisted when they were somewhat older, Aiden was given a pass based on both his family name and the fact that his skill went far beyond his age in its level of maturation. Beginning first as an infantry soldier, he showed his valor on the battlefield whenever he possibly could. It was not long, however, before his talent for Knightmare piloting was on full display, and he was given the position of pilot within the military. Because of his considerable skill and previous training, it was anticipated that he would continue to rise in rank at a rapid pace. At first, this appeared to be the case, as he received a basic frame of his own and began piloting. From his experience with Roderick's Pellinore, he knew the basic functions far before he even began his official military training. Not only this, but he found piloting a Knightmare to be naturally simple and relaxing, and he passed his training with flying colors, looking to be the most promising candidate for promotion and ascension among any of his class. At this stage, the only mentor figure Aiden had in his life was his father, but his passionate and stubborn nature was not yet in full swing.
Directly following Aiden's 16th birthday, after he became a pilot and began absolutely dominating any and all basic units he found, tragedy struck. Roderick Hughes passed away due to sickness, and considering his advanced age and all that he had done, this wasn't necessarily a surprise to anyone. However, the loss of his mentor destroyed the will of this young man, and he found that the only solace in his life was to be found in piloting and engaging challenging enemies. This was when his stubbornness truly began, and slowly but surely he began to lose favor with his superiors. After having been promoted to Warrant Officer for his services and his willingness to put himself on the line for his comrades and the sake of the Holy Empire of Britannia, he was over a series of complaints and misdemeanors demoted once more to the rank of a basic pilot. Although his heart pained him, he was having trouble finding light and happiness in anything at this stage, and he cared more about his own happiness than his military rank. Aiden was expected to take his father's place within the family, and be a nobleman of stature when he was merely a boy. He knew this was not a problem for others in his position, but how could he possibly take the place of a man in whom he'd put so much trust and loved so much? There was no darker time in Aiden's life than this one.
His hopes lifted, however, when finally he encountered a man that he could truly once more put his trust in. He was an elderly gentleman of advanced rank who was commanding the unit to which Aiden had been assigned, and he found in him a fatherly quality that brought comfort and assurance. This was the first of Aiden's mentor figures, and under his command Aiden was once more able to focus on his career and the battles as a whole, not just his own personal satisfaction. He began acting as the son of Roderick Hughes should, and was once more seen in at least a neutral light by those around him. The man was not regularly present in all battles, however, when he was Aiden performed to his utmost.
Over time, Aiden's feelings toward his superiors changed, and a few key figures gained the status of mentor. However, the majority of those who commanded him did not hold this particular status in his mind, and as such his reputation as a wild card in battle did not go away completely. At the age of 17, Aiden was fully confident that he had more confirmed victories against opposing Knightmares than any other pilot in his generation, and believed he was on the road to making a name for himself. However, his old tendencies were still in place, and as such at the moment, just before his 18th birthday, Aiden retains the rank of pilot within the Britannian army, and barring divine intervention and in spite of his prodigal skill, it does not appear as if he will raise any time soon.
